What is a txtAd?
A txtAd is a small textual ad that is rotated by popk. You create your own txtAd and, by showing other txtAds on your site, you gain credits. The more credits you gain, the more your txtAd is shown on other sites.

What is a circuit?
TxtAds belong each to a 'circuit', i.e. a group of sites having the same focus. Each txtAd is checked before
being approved for rotation so that only relevant txtAds are shown on a circuit. For instance, if your site
is about - say - cats, you cannot create txtAds for the 'PHP programming' circuit.

Why circuits?
We know that the more relevant you txtAds are to the interests of a visitor, the more they will be actually
clicked and the more visitors you'll get back. If you visit a site on PHP programming, you are likely
to be interested in other sites on PHP.

How do I create a txtAd?
First you have to create an account on popk.net - you can do it now clicking here.
When you confirm your account, you can log in with your account and click on 'your txtAd account'.
Click on 'add another txtAd now'.
You have to select a circuit that's relevant for your site, a title for your txtAd, a description (20 words or so) and a URL users will go to when they click on your txtAd. Optionally you can add an Icon for your text ad (see below)
When you're done, your txtAd will show in your account page with a status of 'Not approved yet'.
When we see it, we approve it and then rotation starts.
Meanwhile, you should place txtAd HTML code on your pages, so you start earning credits.

How do I gain credits?
To gain credits, you have to place txtAds HTML code on your pages. You can have no more than one txtAd per page.
You get your HTML code by clicking the 'HTML' label in your account. Just copy and paste it on your pages.
You'll usually get 0.75 credits for each time you display a txtAd on your site. Each HTML snippet gets credit to that particular txtAd; i.e. you cannot have only one snippet for more than one txtAd. In fact you can have your ad give credits to other ads, see 'Loads'
^^ Top ^^
What does 'Loads' mean?
In order to have more than one txtAd rotating but without having to insert separate HTML to load it with spendable credits, we added a 'Loads' option for your txtAds.
Each txtAd, by default, loads itself: each time you display the HTML for txtAd #123 on your site, txtAd #123 gets, say, 0.75 credits.
You can add more txtAds (up to 3) that will be loaded by a txtAd of yours: just click on the 'Loading ads' tab. If you add txtAds #130, #131 and #132 to your txtAd #123, each time you display HTML for #123 on your site, one of those four txtAds (#123 itself, #130, #131 and #132) is randomly selected to receive gained credit.
You can select only txtAds belonging to you and being placed in the same circuit as your main txtAd.

What are Icons?
An icon is an optional 32x32 pixel image URL that you may add to your text ad in order to make it more appealing. The icon can be any 32x32 pixel image (Jpeg, GIF, PNG); if you add an image that's not 32x32 it will be resized by the user browser.
The Icon is also displayed in the circuit page, on the left of the txtAd.
When a txtAd has an Icon, you'll see the icon as user will see it on your account page. If it's not shown, you likely entered a wrong URL.
^^ Top ^^
Where can I put Icons?
In general, you should host your Icon on your own web site - if it's on another URL we will not approve it because it's against good manners to 'hotlink' images from websites that you do not own.
If your website for any reason actively denies hotlinking (many free hosting packages do so in order to save bandwidth), your icon will not be shown next to your txtAd.
^^ Top ^^
How do credits work?
When you have at least one credit in your account, your txtAd starts to be displayed on other sites belonging to your circuit. Each time your txtAd is displayed, a credit is taken from your account. This way, the more credits you give to txtAds, the more times your own txtAd is displayed.
^^ Top ^^
How do I see my stats?
By clicking on the 'Stats' label, you should see stats for your txtAd.
- Available credits are credits you have to spend; this number should be close to 0 on average
- Given by your site is how many times your site has displayed other txtAds and how many times they were shown
- Received by your site is the number of times this txtAd was shown and the times it was clicked on
- Stats for the last 60 days or so are the daily detail of activity for your site
^^ Top ^^
How do you approve a txtAd?
When we see a txtAd that is relevant and accurate, we approve it (usually takes 24-48hrs).
If the txtAd is not appropriate in wording, we suspend it: credits are still tracked but we ask you to modify the wording and the ad is not displayed on your circuit.
If the txtAd is placed on a circuit where it's inappropriate, we delete it; you have to create another. Credits are not tracked anymore.
In every case you get a mail notification whether your txtAd was approved, deleted or suspended.
^^ Top ^^
Can I have more than one txtAd?
Yes, you can have as many txtAds as you like, even on different circuits, if you have different sites and/or your site(s) are relevant for them (i.e. if you have a site on PHP, it will likely be okay for both 'PHP' and 'Webmasters' circuit).
^^ Top ^^
Can I change the width for my txtAd?
Yes, you can by modifying generated HTML. Width must anyway be within 120-200 pixels (default is 150). No other part of the given HTML shall be user modified.
^^ Top ^^
What happens if I remove the txtAd from my site?
If you remove the txtAd from your site or you never place it, after 15 days your txtAd is not being shown it will be deactivated, i.e. it will be put on hold and not shown on the network even if you have credits left in your account. You will receive an e-mail notification if your txtAd is being deactivated. You can easily reactivate it if you want to (see the FAQ)
After 50 days your txtAd is not shown, it will be permanently deleted and all associated credits will be lost.
^^ Top ^^
How do I reactivate my txtAd?
You have to log-on and edit your txtAd. You can add a whitespace at the end of the caption, for instance: this way you'll tell us you want your txtAd to be active again. You'll have to put your HTML code on your pages and let it show. In a couple of days you will be notified when your txtAd is reactivated. ^^ Top ^^
Support forum
We have an oline support forum for other problems or things that are not clear.
It's located here.
Please note that txtAds are still in the developement stage, so it's likely that the system has some bugs or glitches - on the other side, your feedback is actually important! So please let us know if things dont work as expected.
